PLACES TO VISIT
There are plenty of beaches nearby, the closest and most secluded of all is 35
minutes walk from the farm. Down a winding tree-lined road and along a wooded
lane, an exhilarating walk takes you down to Marsland Valley; a
designated area of special scientific interest with it’s many rare
species of flora and fauna and breathtaking views.
Distinctly atmospheric, Marsland Mouth is flanked by
dramatic rocks and cliffs. One can often be the only person on the beach!
In finer weather it is an ideal place to collect
driftwood, explore rock pools at low tide, light a barbecue and watch
spectacular sunsets.
If you’re well wrapped up, even in wild weather, the
sight of the stormy sea and thunderous sky at Marsland is an unforgettable
experience.
It is truly a place in which to feel at one with the
elements!
If a less energetic approach is required, one needs
only drive for 5 minutes to the striking little cove of Duckpool. Situated at
the end of beautiful Coombe Valley, Duckpool is popular with surfers and the
favoured beach of the locals in Morwenstow. With fewer people than the main
beaches, there is plenty of sand at low tide with many rock pools in which to
catch crabs!
There are many more beaches to choose from; details of
all of which are in the Official Bude Mini Guide.
Other places to visit in Morwenstow include the
thirteenth century Bush Inn (walking time via the lanes, 20 minutes or along the
coast path in 1 hour!), the quaint old National Trust owned Rectory Farm Tea
rooms, who serve the most magnificent home made cream teas which are the perfect
conclusion to a day at the beach or a brisk cliff walk! The village shop and
post office is 20 minutes' walk.
Our local riding stables are a mile and a half away and
there is no better way to see the countryside than on horseback! They are
pleased to take riders at any level of experience including those with limited
mobility.
Whilst Cory Farm is a real haven from the rush and
stress of urban life, one does not have to travel far to rejoin the masses...!
There are four adventure theme parks within half an
hours drive from us, the closest only four miles away. Bude is a bustling hive
of activity day and night and a hot spot for surfing. With it’s beaches, surfing
schools, cafés, trendy surf wear shops, tenpin bowling, lively pubs, restaurants
and two night clubs, it’s a great place for young people. Factory outlet
shopping at the Atlantic Village is 25 minutes' drive away.
Cornwall’s only city of Truro and attractions such as
the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the popular fishing village of
Padstow, made famous by Rick Stein’s enthusiasm for seafood, are all within 1½
hours drive from Morwenstow, as are many National Trust properties such as
Lanhydrock and Cotehele. |
